“The producer of Black Adam explains why Dwayne Johnson’s DC film has been delayed.”
Hiram Garcia, the producer of Black Adam, has explained why Dwayne Johnson’s DC film has been postponed till October.
Since The Rock was cast as the titular anti-hero in 2014, it’s been a long road to The Rock’s DC debut in Black Adam. Originally slated to star as the major antagonist in Shazam!, Warner Bros. decided in 2017 that Black Adam will have his own film to tell his origin story.
It’s no wonder, however, that fans were dismayed to learn that Black Adam would be delayed again, this time from July to October 2022, after being postponed from December 2021.
Producer Garcia indicated that the reason for the delay was due to the VFX department’s backlog as a result of the pandemic.
He told The Wrap, “I think we’re just in a world right now where there was a tremendous and reasonable freeze when the pandemic hit and a lot of films were put on hold.”
“The VFX pipeline is so backed up now that the industry has truly recovered. Obviously, all of these superhero films necessitate a tremendous amount of visual effects, and the bulk of VFX houses are currently overburdened.”
Of course, one of the most crucial components of superhero films is visual effects, which is why Garcia also mentioned that the backlog has caused delays for other superhero blockbusters like Aquaman 2 and The Flash.
“I believe that’s why you’ve seen seismic movements across the board and why those massive properties are just going down the line.” It’s simply a matter of the suppliers being able to accommodate the number of VFX and shots that must be completed.
“They’re killing it, and we’re thankful for all those VFX houses.” Things appear to be settling down, and I believe you’ll notice fewer shifts in the future,” he continued.
