The Producer of Moon Knight Reveals What Marc Did During Avengers: Endgame (Exclusive)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s continuity is a one-of-a-kind beast. Its scope is staggering; storylines and characters from over thirty distinct projects weave together to make a cohesive story, creating a one-of-a-kind world. A single occurrence, such as The Snap, can set off a chain reaction that results in dozens of tales.

People were stunned when Avengers: Endgame initially debuted, as Marvel Studios kept to its guns and made the world live with the consequences of that event for five years. Even after everyone was reunited, the trauma remained. That fractured existence would continue indefinitely.

Surprisingly, several stories have yet to explore how the split world has affected their characters. Moon Knight, the most recent series, is an excellent example of this. Was Oscar Isaac’s crusader among the survivors, or had he been missing for five years?

During Avengers: Endgame, where was Moon Knight?

Moon Knight head writer and executive producer Jeremy Slater revealed the fate of Marc Spector during Avengers: Endgame––or at least the spoken conclusion they all came to––in an exclusive conversation with The Direct’s Russ Milheim.

Slater confirmed that “the writers room [all] collectively thought he survived the Blip,” and that if he didn’t, it’d be “something you have to deal with,” as shown in other MCU series like WandaVision and Hawkeye, where the Blip’s impact is seen through Monica Rambeau and Yelena Belova, respectively.

“We absolutely, collectively, in the writers room, thought he survived the Blip, that he wasn’t blipped away.” Because, while I don’t know how you feel about it, I believe you would have to deal with it if he had been blipped and returned. It’s something you’d have to deal with, especially if your character is trying to figure out who he is in the world and has a lot of unanswered questions about his background. It was strange not to mention the Blip of it all. As a result, we all assumed he was among the 50 percent who made it.”

Marc was presumably working in the same way “as Hawkeye [was] when he had his hands full as Ronin” during that 5-year interval, the writer continued, because the criminal underworld was so active:

“However, as to what happened during that time, I believe they mention in the show that Steven basically woke up approximately two years ago.” Following the death of Marc’s mother, that was the first time they started living different lifestyles. So that’s the last two years, and we suppose the three years before that were sort of Marc, just like Hawkeye had his hands full as Ronin because the criminal underworld was going wild during the Blip time, I guess Moon Knight had his hands full as well. But it was all done in the shadows, and he was removing a lot of threats that had never surfaced or seen the light of day.”

In Thanos’ Post-Snap World, Marc stayed busy.

Slater’s response isn’t very surprising. After all, the show’s second episode contains a little Easter Egg that almost reveals the titular hero was among those who were not blipped.

He also makes a fantastic point about it being such a significant issue that they must address it. Missing out on five years in the blink of an eye may be devastating to one’s psyche, and it’s something that half of humanity is grappling with. All of this is to imply that it would affect one’s daily mental state, which is an area where the programme excels.

In addition, the head writer appears to have established Marc’s status as Moon Knight for quite some time, as he would have been active about the same time as Clint Barton’s Ronin. So Marc Spector has been operating in the shadows for quite some time, going undetected.

Another hero whose Snap fate is unknown is Shang-Chi. In principle, this means Simu Liu’s hero was not blipped, according to Slater’s logic.

Despite the reasonable desire to avoid discussing these major events, fans will almost certainly want to know how all of the MCU’s characters were affected, no matter how frequently the subject, such as The Blip, comes up. Perhaps in Season 2?

Moon Knight is now available to watch on Disney+.
